Hong Kong Prize – Honouring Hong Kong’s Unsung Heroes

The award shines a spotlight on Hong Kong’s unsung heroes, honouring their genuine spirit of charity, civic awareness and goodwill. It also celebrates their inspiring stories of overcoming personal challenges, community contribution, acts of self-sacrifice and tenacious entrepreneurship. It also aims to foster an interest in Hong Kong’s unique history and culture among the public.

The winners of this year’s hongkong prize were revealed at an awards ceremony on Sunday evening. Film director Nick Cheuk and actress Rachel Lee took home top prizes for their work in dramas X-Men: First Class and Port of Call respectively. The HK$3 million top prize will support the development of young arts practitioners and help them to realise their artistic visions.

BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION PRIZE is an independent merit-based scientific research prize worth HK$2 million sponsored by Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited. The PRIZE is awarded in four fields – Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Life and Health Sciences, New Materials and New Energy, and Advanced Manufacturing and FinTech, and each field should not award more than five persons or teams per year.

Each prize winner will be invited to present their research at a world-class science conference in Hong Kong. They will be given the opportunity to collaborate with leading scientists, gain access to state-of-the-art research facilities, and promote their research findings locally and globally. The PRIZE is administered by an independent review board comprising an expert Review Committee and Compliance Oversight Team. The Board is responsible for suggesting important scientific research fields for the PRIZE, setting requirements for nominating experts, and verifying and approving the final review results.

In addition to the main prize, each winner will receive a certificate and an engraved medal. Winners can collect their prizes at the Leisure and Cultural Services Department after presenting their award notification letter and identification document for verification. The winners of the first prize in each category will also have the chance to win a further prize in the jackpot draw.

Applicants for the hongkong prize must be recommended by their school principals or Executive Directors of VTC, and be in full-time subvented programmes pegged at Senior Secondary 3 / Secondary 6 level, at a recognised educational institution in Hong Kong, for 2023 – 24 academic year. They should be under the age of 50 at the time of nomination, and they must not have won the HK$1 million prize in previous years.
