Hong Kong Pools

Hong Kong has a plethora of fabulous swimming pools. There are public ones (often with breathtaking views), pools in residential complexes, and there’s the ultimate pool – the ocean.

Whether you prefer marathon-lapping an 18-meter pool first thing in the morning or lounging, cabana-style with a cocktail and good company watching the sunset, you’ll find a pool that suits you in Hong Kong. And while you may be tempted to splurge on an expensive hotel suite with its own private pool, there’s also the option of buying a day pass for a local pool.

Public swimming pools are a staple of many Hong Kong residents’ lives, offering an escape from the scorching summer heat. Most have one or more 50m pools, plus shallower teaching pools for children and a few diving pools. Almost all have changing rooms, showers, and lockers. Most are open for three sessions a day: 6:30am-12:00, 1:00-6:00 and 7:00-10:00pm. Admission is $19 for adults and $9 for students, seniors, or those with disabilities.

Aside from the obvious health benefits, a swim can be a fun way to relax and spend some time with friends or family. And while the coronavirus has left the city’s beaches and many swimming pools closed for more than six months, there are plenty of other places to splash about.

If you’re looking for an amazing view to go with your swim, head to the Hotel Indigo’s gorgeous infinity pool, which overlooks Victoria Harbor. And to make the experience even more surreal, the hotel pipes in underwater music.

Another great place to get a refreshing swim is the Pao Yue Kong Pool in Wong Chuk Hang. This vast complex features pools of all shapes and sizes, ranging from a lap pool to a diving pool, and it’s perfect for all levels of swimmers. It’s also home to two kid-friendly pools, and a water slide.

If you’re in the mood to splash out, check out the indoor and outdoor pools at The Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong. It’s the world’s highest rooftop pool, and you’ll be rewarded with an incredible view of the city from your lounge chair or towel. And if you’re feeling like you need to be a little more active, the hotel has an on-site gym and a spa. There are also several restaurants and bars nearby, making it easy to grab a bite to eat or a drink while you’re cooling off.
